Teddy Shine
Teddy Shine, I am quite surprised to meet you here today, you have been so scarce on the social scene, what has been the challenge?
I have been very busy, I have a lot of things I am doing now. You know I am a lawyer now and I have to run my two chambers; one in Lagos and the other in Abuja and that goes along with my other businesses. So, I have just been occupied with business activities.
“Couple of friends called me today that they read in the paper that I have been out of circulation that I have been taking it easy and all that, that I hardly go to parties. Yes, I can tell you this is the first party I am attending this year”.
Couple of years ago, the social gigs will never be complete without a Teddy Shine in the party but today, you have read law, what has law done to you?
Law has not changed anything about me, I still remain the same Teddy Shine, I have only added more activities to my schedule and that is taking a lot from me.

But you hardly show up at parties these days, in fact the talk in town is that you have disappeared from the social radar?
Yeah, I have been busy. I hardly go out now.
Maybe you read a lot of books?
Yes, I read a lot of books. Couple of friends called me today that they read in the paper that I have been out of circulation that I have been taking it easy and all that, that I hardly go to parties. Yes, I can tell you this is the first party I am attending this year.
Why?
Nothing really big, I am just taking things easy. I have been pre-occupied with other activities and that is why I have been out of town. I am really, really busy.
So, how would you describe the late Baba J.B. Ajayi?
He was a wonderful man and I can tell you that Ekiti State has lost a wonderful human being, they have lost a brilliant man, a philanthropist to the core but haven said that, when it is time to go you have to go but Baba lived a good life and he left behind a good legacy. Thank God for his life, may Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah.
When did you arrive Ekiti and is it true that you are no more in good terms with your best friend, Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose?
I came in last night and I was with my friend (Governor Ayodele Fayose) and that is one of the articles and stories being branded in town that myself and Fayose are no more together. Let me tell you, Ayo Fayose still remain my very, very good friend. We are cordial, more than we used to be before now.
But how are you taking the report that you people have gone apart and that you are fighting over some issues?
Fighting over what?
Some people said maybe it is as a result of political differences?
No, we don’t have any political differences.
“She has duly played the role of a helper in my life; she is a wonderful woman that any man will pray to have in his life. I thank God for her life, we met some twenty six years ago, our first child is 21 years and the romance keeps waxing stronger every day”.

But you are in APC?
No, I am a business man. I have never fought over any political position in my life.
But your wife is a prominent politician and don’t you think her interest in APC could affect you?
Yes she is and that does not affect me. You see, you must know your wife and your wife must know you; the wife I marry, I know my wife very, very, very well. There is nothing I don’t know about my wife and for me, I give my support to my wife because of the trust I have for her. And I can tell you she is a very good politician and she is going to go places.
Teddy-Shine

If your wife suddenly becomes a Governor, would you be able to take it and play your role as her husband in the background?
If at this stage I allowed her to be a member of the House of Representative and I also allowed her to serve under Honorable Aminu Tambuwal as a special adviser on parliamentary matters, if she decides to contest for the post of the president of Nigeria tomorrow I will give her all my support. She is a good wife.
So, what is the secret of your romance for 25 years?
My wife is very dear to my life; she has been a great woman and pillar of support to the family. She has duly played the role of a helper in my life; she is a wonderful woman that any man will pray to have in his life. I thank God for her life, we met some twenty six years ago, our first child is 21 years and the romance keeps waxing stronger every day. She has been a very wonderful wife and mother of our children.
Maybe that is why Teddy Shine didn’t marry a second wife?
I cannot marry a second wife, I am happy with my wife. I don’t need to bring any problem to my home. I am happy with my family; she has 4 beautiful children for me, two boys and two girls. So, what else am I looking for?
“I don’t see any problem between Fayose and Buhari. Fayose is the governor, Buhari is the president; Fayose is in Ekiti state, Buhari is in Abuja, he is the president of the whole country. So, there is no problem between the two. People from afar see Fayose as a controversial person but as far as I am concerned, he is not a controversial person, he is just a principled person”.
What advice do you have for friends missing you on the social scene?
We are not getting any younger, at this age we must get our priorities right. That was then when we were very young, galvanizing from here to there. But right now we are not getting any younger. Yes, they must have fun, they must enjoy themselves but hey, you must create a limit. There must be a limit to everything you are doing in life. You must know when to run and when to slow down.
You are no doubt a handsome man with a dashing look, how do you handle advances from female admirers?
God’s grace; by the special grace of God, I have been able to handle that aspect of my life through the grace of the Almighty Allah.
Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose
On the issue of your fight with Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose, what do you have to say?
I have told you that, it is all rumor; people are just peddling all sorts of rumors. I have been in Ekiti State since yesterday and on arrival, you wont believe the first person that welcomed me in was the state’s number 1 citizen and my friend, Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose. I went straight to him and we were together till early hour of this morning around 1 am before I went to bed. We were meant to come to this place together but I was tired sleeping but as I leave this place now, I am going to him. So, our relationship is still cordial. Very, very cordial and I will only advice the rumor merchants to drop the game. There is no fight between me and Governor Ayo Fayose. In fact this morning when THE NATION Newspaper wrote it again that we are fighting, I was just laughing and he also laughed over it, there are lots of things our people don’t know and I think it is high time they know. So, please, bury the hatchet of rumor.
Your friend Governor Ayo Fayose is perceived to be in the bad book of President Muhammad Buhari, do you see them working together?
Why not? I don’t see any problem between Fayose and Buhari. Fayose is the governor, Buhari is the president; Fayose is in Ekiti state, Buhari is in Abuja, he is the president of the whole country. So, there is no problem between the two. People from afar see Fayose as a controversial person but as far as I am concerned, he is not a controversial person, he is just a principled person. I can tell you without mincing words, if Fayose is with you, he is with you come rain, come sunshine. He is that kind of person. So, he will forever be my friend, he will forever be my good friend.
So, where did the rumor emerged that you two are fighting?
Well, that is normal. In our society, people peddle all sorts of rumors but the best thing is to ignore them. Just ignore them. in fact, I have received so many calls today about this publication (The Nation Newspaper) but I just laugh and I believe he (Ayo Fayose did same thing) He laughed too, he called me to say “Teddy Shine, have you read The Nation?” I said “what is in The Nation?” He said “They are talking about us” and it ended there. So, there is no cause for alarm.
