Gov. Ibikunle Amosun
The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has charged the Management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to live up to expectation by improving on the supply and distribution of power to its teeming customers across the state.
Governor Amosun while receiving the Board of Directors of the Company led by the Chairman, Dr. Tunde Ayeni who were on a courtesy visit to his Office at Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, urged them to do all within their powers to correct the bad impression their customers had about them as a result of unstable power supply.
Amosun noted that power was key to the socio- economic development of any nation, adding that the epileptic supply over the years had negatively affected the Nigerian economy, pointing out that the present administration at Federal level had embarked on aggressive remedial plans to end the challenges.
"It is imperative to note that President Muhammadu Buhari had realized the importance of stable electricity supply to the socio-economic development of the nation and he is determined to get it right," he said.
He said that the inability of power distribution company to effectively meet customers demand had stalled the successful implementation of the proposed increase in the electricity tariff across the nation which he noted had been widely criticized by the organized labour and other stakeholders due to lack of trust in the companys ability to meet up with its objectives to deliver uninterrupted power supply.
He added that the people were ready to pay new tariff, provided power supply would be stable, calling on the company to improve on its supply and  also make adequate provision for a sustainable metering system that would not only be affordable, but also available  to customers in order to eradicate the prevailing estimated billing across  the State.
Earlier, the Board Chairman, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Dr. Olatunde Ayeni appreciated Governor Ibikunle Amosun for his visionary leadership, saying that the visit was part of the company's plan to discuss its activities with core stakeholders.
Dr. Ayeni said Ogun was one of its key stakeholders, informing the Government that the Company has a franchise to cover Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Kwara and parts of Niger, Kogi and Ekiti States, but noted that Ogun had contributed greatly to the revenue base of the Company and thus remained the hub of its business expansion.
The IBEDC Chairman said in a quest to improve on its service delivery to the people of the State, the Company had put in place plans to eradicate estimated billing system, revitalizing old electricity substations with new KVAs, shedding of part of load congested areas in Abeokuta among others, and more so to work with Independent Power Plant investors (IPP) in gas and non- gas based plants to assist in improving on its power supply.
He enjoined the people of the State to always pay their bills as and when due, assuring them of the determination of the Company to tackle the challenges.
