Iku Baba Yeye, Alaafin Lamidi Adeyemi

The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Lamidi Adeyemi last Saturday, July 22, 2017 in anger warned Oluwo of Iwo land, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi against his vitriolic attacks on Ooni of Ife,  His Imperial Majesty, Oba  Enitan Babatunde Adeyeye Ogunwusi (Ojaja II)
The powerful monarch gave the warning during the presentation of the
beaded crown and sword insigna to Onikoyi of Ikoyi, Oba Afeez Badeji
Adigun Akinmoyero in Ikoyi near Kuta, Aiyedire Local Government Area of
Osun State.
The Warning by Alaafin…
Late Ooni Adesoji Adereme with some Yoruba Obas in 1932

According to Alaafin Adeyemi, “I am warning you (Oluwo) against going
outside to attack any Oba. You cannot appropriate and reprobate at
the same time. You should be careful. You are a young Oba. You don’t
use occasions like this to attack another Oba. Ooni was alive when I
crowned Akirun of Ikirun, Olunisha of Inisha, to mention just a few
Oba and Baale in Osun of the then Oyo State and there was no dispute
of any kind. For anybody to wear crown today, the person must follow
the processes and procedure including approval by the state Ministry
of Justice and the Council of Traditional Rulers”.
“The Governor can discipline or sanction anybody that violates the
law-be you Alaafin, Ooni or Oluwo.”
 Alaafin added.
Late Ooni Adesoji Aderemi....drew a list for recognized bead wearing kings in 1932 before Awolowo's declaration of 1955
He stated that his presence at the occasion was because he was invited by Onikoyi who was receiving the
beaded crown on that day in Ikoyi.
Alafin Adeyemi added that crownship has become Government business as
declared by late Chief Obafemi Awolowo since 1955 when he became
Premier of the defunct Western region.
Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo reduced crownship to Government's business since 1955
This, he said put to rest the
earlier list drawn by Ooni Adesoji Aderemi on those entitled to wear
the beaded crown and those not entitled when he became the Ooni in
1932. He however said that there were many controversies on this until
General David Jemibewon (rtd.) became Governor of the old Oyo State.
Alaafin’s anger with Oluwo…
The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulraheed Adewale Akanbi (Telu 1)
After offering the above explanations on the evolution of beaded
crown, Alaafin Adeyemi said, “What Oluwo said is not supposed to be
said here because the Ooni that he is accusing is not here. We have
not gathered here to disparage a king. We have not gathered here to
abuse a king. We have come here to attend the crowning of a king-the
Onikoyi of Ikoyi. I disagree with what he has said. No doubt Oluwo is
in a big position but any wrangling between Oluwo and Ooni should not
be a matter brought before the public.
This is what Rev. Samuel Johnson said about Knowledge and Integrity
As an elder, I am not supposed
to be in any place of unresolved dispute in Yoruba land. Jemibewon
that gathered Professors of History to resolve crown issues in Yoruba
land is still alive”.
General David Medayese Jemibewon (RTD) Settled the issue of Obaship in Yoruba Land during his tenure as Oyo State Governor

“I have to restate the genesis of traditional council” the Alaafin added. The well educated royal father backed his facts with quotations from earliest Historians like Samuel Johnson.
History of the Yoruba People by Rev. Samuel Johnson
Alafin Adeyemi faced Oluwo Akanbi before the gathering of eminent sons and royalties of Ikoyi town and told him matter of facts that “This is not the right place for you to say all that you have said knowing full well that Ooni of Ife is not here. Let us face what we have come here to do. I disagree with your twist of history. We should not spoil the crowning programme
that we have come here for”.

Oluwo’s statement  that got Alaafin mad at him…

Earlier, Oluwo Akanbi said he wanted to talk because Alaafin is
present. He said that some people said that his crown is from Obalorin
and Obalorin is not a king in Ile-Ife. Oluwo added that, “Iwo’s crown
has been from the 10th century when Telu was crowned.
The Opa Oranmiyan
The first person
to wear crown in Africa is Alaafin and there are a few rulers in Yoruba
land apart from Alaafin, Orangun, Owa as well as Oluwo that can be
referred to as natural Oba. Oluwo is one of the first natural Obas.
Without Oranmiyan going back to Ile-Ife as ruler, there would be no
crown in Ife. The warriors have taken over most lands in Yoruba land.
How many kings do we have in the first to fourth centuries?”
Oluwo asked from the bewildered crowd before he continued.
Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi

"Luwo gave crown to his son, Telu. I am not wearing crown from
Obalorin but from Oduduwa. They should go and tell Ooni the right
history that I did not receive crown from Ife Chief but I am a direct
descendant of Oduduwa”.
He concluded angrily.
